Mission

Maintain and enhance the productive and cultural integrity of the Initiative's bio-region, to support the people to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

Principles

Resilience & Sustainability

Resilience and sustainability of the North Coast landscapes' economy, culture and ecology depends upon maintaining the productivity of the landscape's rich natural resources including streams and water bodies, pastures, grassland, oak woodlands, wetlands and riparian, and coniferous forests.

working landscapes

Developing resources and leading policy for the preservation of working landscapes of sufficient size, scope and diversity to maintain economic viability, and provide the policy protection and incentive vehicles needed for continued health in the region's agriculture, farming, ranching and timber, and those important wildlife habitats inherent with resilient agricultural lands.

husbandry & Stewardship

Maintaining the productive integrity of our ecology and economy requires preservation, promotion and celebration of the husbandry skill of its owners and managers as well. The Initiative's geographic region needs to be controlled by leaders with understanding and commitment to the application of husbandry of the specific complex economies and ecologies of agricultural land.

culture & community

Respect and promotion of husbandry and stewardship cultures of our individual communities is imperative. These cultures may include for example native peoples' lands, beef or sheep livestock ranching districts, bottoms livestock finishing, dairy, and truck farming districts, and forestry district sub-cultures. Also, industrial manufacturing of local products and wild fisheries, both recreational and commercial.
